In an interview with Megyn Kelly on Thursday, Tara Reade spoke out against Joe Biden for the first time since he denied her sexual assault allegations last Friday. Reade called for Biden to drop out of the presidential race, saying, “I wish he would. But he won’t, but I wish he would.”

When asked what she would say to Biden if he were watching the interview, Reade said, “I want to say, ‘You and I were there, Joe Biden, please step forward and be held accountable. You should not be running on character for the president of the United States.'” Reade told Kelly that although Biden has taken a position in the past that sexual assault victims should be taken seriously, her experience after speaking out has been dominated by hackingsocial media hostility, and death threats.

Prior to the release of the interview with Kelly, The San Luis Obispo Tribune uncovered a 1996 court document written by Reade’s ex-husband Theodore Dronen, which showed she spoke out about sexual harassment while working for Biden three years earlier. Dronen did not say in the statement whether Biden had committed the harassment. The document does not mention Reade’s recent allegations of sexual assault, either.

In response to the interview, Biden’s deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield alluded to “more inconsistencies” regarding Reade’s allegations, specifically mentioning interviews with the Associated Press last week and in 2019. President Trump addressed the allegations in an interview with Fox & Friends Friday, noting he hopes they are not true “for [Biden’s] sake.”

Biden on Reade Calling for Him to Drop Out: ‘Nothing Ever Happened with Tara Reade’ – Breitbart – 5/7/2020
Biden stated, “Well look, nothing ever happened with Tara Reade. Believing women means taking a woman’s claim seriously when she steps forward, and then vetting it, looking into it. […] Women have a right to be heard and the press should rigorously investigate claims like these. I’ll always uphold that principle. But in the end, in every case, the truth is what matters. And in this case, the truth is, these claims are flat-out false.”

Siraj Hashmi on Twitter, 5/7/2020: Given the number of women who have said they believe Tara Reade and are going to vote for Joe Biden anyway, it’s kind of incredible that Reade calling for Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race has to be the lede.

Stephen L. Miller on Twitter, 5/7/2020: By Joe Biden’s own standard he should drop out, not Tara Reade’s.
