THE NEUTRAL ZONE
After the recent arrest of Jeffrey Epstein’s former girlfriend and alleged procurer Ghislaine Maxwell on six counts of sex trafficking, conspiracy theories and all manner of intrigue have arisen. Maxwell was arrested after being discovered in a New Hampshire mansion, a property she purchased in late 2019 and paid cash for using the anonymous LLC “Granite Reality, Inc.”
Well-connected socialite, financier, and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein reportedly hanged himself in 2019 while in police custody before he was able to testify regarding possible connections to powerful figures, sparking conspiracies and casting doubt over the handling of his case. Maxwell has been charged with procuring and recruiting young women and underage girls for Epstein, an accusation she denies. Maxwell has since argued that she deserves bail, although she was deemed an extreme flight risk by prosecutors. Facing a possible 35 years in prison, Maxwell pointed to her lack of a criminal record to argue that she is not a flight risk, also noting her increased risk of exposure to coronavirus while being detained in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.
Maxwell is considered a suicide risk and therefore has been issued paper clothing to wear while she awaits her bail hearing. Federal authorities are reportedly taking these extra precautions due to the amount of scrutiny and media backlash after Jeffrey Epstein allegedly took his own life while in police custody. Maxwell must also have a roommate in her cell at all times.
Maxwell’s attorney Laura Menninger alleges that the U.S. attorney’s office issued a “meritless indictment” in response to accusations made against Maxwell by the couple’s alleged first known victim “Jane Doe,” who claims that she was abused at the hands of Epstein and Maxwell for years, beginning when she was 13 years old. According to the complaint, “Maxwell also regularly facilitated Epstein’s abuse of Doe and was frequently present when it occurred.” Menninger also stated that Jane Doe was culpable for her own alleged abuse because it was “the result of her own conduct.”
In the wake of Maxwell’s arrest, a significant amount of media attention has shifted towards her high profile associates. Many pictures of Epstein and Maxwell alongside powerful figures have created a guilt-by-association narrative. Longtime Epstein associate Prince Andrew of the British Royal Family is under scrutiny after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl allegedly instructed to do so by Epstein. While Prince Andrew denied the allegations, he has been seen in photographs alongside Maxwell and the alleged 17-year old victim. President Donald Trump has also been photographed alongside Epstein and Maxwell. One of the photos appeared on Fox News with Trump cropped out of the photo, which Fox reported as an error. The photo was taken at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s resort that was frequented by Epstein and Maxwell. Prince Andrew’s accuser alleges that she was recruited by Maxwell for this sex trafficking ring while working at Mar-a-Lago as a locker room attendant.

The source added, “They want to make sure she’ll stand trial,” pointing out that the Bureau of Prisons wants to avoid another “black eye.”
The Law Was Never Meant for Ghislaine Maxwell – The New Republic – 7/10/2020
The most serious charges against Maxwell involve “enticement,” as defined in a part of the U.S. criminal code that began its life in the early twentieth century as the Mann Act. […] What Maxwell is not charged with is sex trafficking. But that is how some media outlets reported her arrest, with others describing the charges as being in connection with Epstein’s “sex trafficking ring.” The key federal law defining sex trafficking is the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, under which Epstein was charged for acts he is accused of committing in the 2000s. Maxwell is charged for criminal acts allegedly taking place before that law passed, and so was charged with a different crime—that older offense—on the books at that time.
Incoherent Conspiracy Suggests Ghislaine Maxwell Is a Powerful Redditor – Vice – 7/9/2020
The “evidence” shared by conspiracy theorists is that the user in question, u/MaxwellHill, has the word “Maxwell” in their name. The conspiracy theory’s architects claim that gaps in the user’s posting history are tied to what they believe to be significant events in Ghislaine Maxwell’s life that apparently would have precluded her from posting links to articles about climate change, insects, Bitcoin, and a host of other various general news, as the account has dutifully done since 2006. They also have glommed onto a 2011 Gizmodo article in which MaxwellHill mentioned they were “busy with a potential business venture.”
Officials ‘fear Ghislaine Maxwell might take her own life in custody’ – The London Economic – 7/10/2020
The protections are in case she harms herself, and in case other inmates wish to harm her. The concern comes in part because Epstein, 66, killed himself in a federal jail in Manhattan last summer while in custody on sex trafficking charges. The Bureau of Prisons has been the subject of intense scrutiny and conspiracy theories since then, with staff shake-ups and leadership changes. Attorney General William Barr said his death was the result of the “perfect storm of screw ups”.

Dr. Fauci’s role as the nation’s top infectious disease expert has made him a target of false information. Social media users are now attempting to link Fauci to conspiracy theories tied to Jeffrey Epstein, the financier who died in jail after being charged with sex trafficking underage girls. Posts online say that Fauci’s wife is related to Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite, who was arrested Thursday and charged with helping recruit girls for Epstein.
