A senior federal official said he was pressured to suppress details in his intelligence reports that President Donald Trump might find objectionable. This accusation was outlined in a complaint Brian Murphy filed with the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General on Tuesday. Murphy, a former FBI agent and Marine Corps veteran, was demoted in August from his role as principal deputy undersecretary in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis. He is seeking to be reinstated.

The complaint named actions taken by former and current Homeland Security officials, including heads such as Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Acting Secretary Chad Wolf, and Deputy Secretary Kenneth Cuccinelli. It described perjured testimony before Congress regarding the southwest border wall. It also outlined abuse of authority in connection with numerous intelligence reports, including:

  • Conditions in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador
  • Russian efforts to influence and undermine United States interests
  • The Homeland Threat Assessment, specifically the sections regarding white supremacy and Russian influence in the United States
  • ANTIFA and “anarchist” groups operating in the United States

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., referred to the allegations as “grave and disturbing” and stated that attempts to “politicize, manipulate, and censor intelligence in order to benefit President Trump politically” puts the United States and its security at risk. He requested in a letter that Murphy appear for a deposition on Sept. 21.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Matthews said National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien “has never sought to dictate the Intelligence Community’s focus on threats to the integrity of our elections or on any other topic” and called the statements “false and defamatory.” Homeland Security spokesman Alexei Woltornist added, “We flatly deny that there is any truth to the merits of Mr. Murphy’s claim.”

DHS Denies Democrat Claims It Downplays the Threat of White Terrorists – Breitbart – 9/9/2020
“Let me be clear — DHS stands in absolute opposition to any form of violent extremism, whether by white supremacist extremists or anarchist extremists,” he continued, adding “we will continue our daily efforts to combat all forms of domestic terror.” The September 9 speech served as a partial answer to a letter and report by Democrats, which said that top officials at the DHS were trying to illegally downplay the intelligence reports about the threat of terror attacks by Americans alienated by the nation’s shifting demographics and politics.

Whistleblower: Trump Officials Endangered the Nation to Protect Trump’s Fragile Ego – Rolling Stone – 9/9/2020
They juiced the numbers to fabricate a non-existent terrorist threat on the southern border to make the case for President Trump’s border wall. They buried the intelligence about Russian interference in American elections to keep the president happy. They demanded the reassignment or termination of “deep state” analysts whose reports didn’t fit the administration’s predetermined narrative about violence and corruption in Latin America. And they retaliated against the career official who dared to question or resist these moves.

Schiff reveals new whistleblower complaint alleging suppression of Russian election interference intel reports – Fox News – 9/9/2020
“We’ve received a whistleblower complaint alleging DHS suppressed intel reports on Russian election interference, altered intel to match false Trump claims and made false statements to Congress,” Schiff, D-Calif., tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “This puts our national security at risk.” He added: “We will investigate.” Schiff said that the investigation will come as part of the panel’s probe into alleged “grave” misconduct by White House and DHS officials, and the reprisal against Murphy for making protected disclosures.
